When you feel like you are on a daily hamster wheel, it can be hard to focus on the big picture, let alone be intentional in the next moment.
It takes more than deciding in our minds. We have to help our bodies decide, because they are programmed to keep going at 100mph - because that is what has been rewarded in the past and thus helped us to feel safe.
We have to help our bodies have a new come-from, to know that it is safe to slow down, to be more aware. Then, we can decide and act with intention.
Pausing can feel really difficult, and it can begin as simply as a short breathing exercise. I talk about box breathing A LOT, because it is easy to remember and very effective for changing our state of mind and body, very quickly.
Here is a 4 minute breathing exercise you can do now:
If you can do something like this once per day, you will begin craving it more. Perhaps scheduling it in, three times per day. Then more pausing to follow, perhaps adding more practices in. The more you intentionally pause with the body, consistently, the more space you will create mentally, and in your calendar. You will begin to feel inspired to take action in areas you previously felt were elusive.
This was the case for me - when I felt like I had no agency, I created agency unexpectedly, when I began focusing from the inside out.
Give yourself a chance to expand, and to begin to live into all the big goals that feel too hard to achieve. It really begins as simply as breathing, now.
